The Hunt

Day 3, 19 February 2011
Finding a roof over our heads
As with all other visits, we'd usually look for accommodation upon arrival. We used to pay approximately S$15-20 per room/per night which gives us a decent non-aircon place with hot water, but this trip, we decided to pamper ourselves (without being over-extravagant). And so the hunt begins...

spoilt for choice
We rode to a familiar spot: Penestanan, where there were plenty of accommodation to choose from (or so we thought). We climbed up what seemed like the never-ending steps to heaven and it isn't too hard to believe me when I say I was fucking outta breadth by the time I got up there! All this time with our luggage on our backs! FOL!

the neverending flight of steps
The sun was scorching, the bags were heavy, we were almost outta water... and there was no where to hide from the sun. No shade, no shelter, zilch. We had initially toyed with the idea to stay somewhere quiet, and with a view overlooking the rice paddy fields. We walked past a couple of potential spots, but they were either way above our intended budget, or were fully-occupied.

Being the impatient person (as always), I had to remind myself (in my head), to stay calm (and cool; which was probably the goddamn most difficult task at hand because of the scorching sun and the lack of water and shade!) L and I finally decided to head back down (that never-ending flight of steps) and try our luck somewhere else; where we did not have to work out our calves all that much. I swear I'm too old for all these walking.

We made so many wrong turns, up slopes, down slops, left turns, right turns... you get the idea... until we FINALLY settled in at Dewa Bungalows. Next thing we knew, we were soaking in the pool. OK, so there isn't any rice paddy views but it sure was a decent place, and we made friends with some decent folks from the Netherlands!

Dewa Bungalows: 48 Jalan Hanoman, Ubud
One thing we've discovered and seen plenty of, in Ubud - "Eat Pray Lovers"! They need no introduction and if you have no clue wtf I'm talking about; you should read the book, or watch the movie.

Scorching sun aside, I *heart* Ubud. So much more than I ever did.
